How do we communicate beyond language? How do the ways we express ourselves inform who we are and where we belong? I will explore these questions through the voice, singing around the world to engage with the life and culture of the voice, as well as my own roots.
My year originally was planned to take place in 2021 but due to the pandemic things have been postponed. Just as we have changed as a result of the pandemic so has my trip.
The trip has evolved to take on broader meaning. Music is central to my life, career, and level of connection with those around me. I hope to continue this exploration during my Watson year. My trumpet along with my voice, will be accompanying me on this trip to hopefully further deepen potential connections with those I meet.
I am now starting my trip in Munich, Germany before heading to other countries in Europe to begin my exploration of the intersectionality of self and culture through music. If things go as planned (knock on wood) India will be my next stop at the end of October.
This blog is meant to serve as a record of my thoughts, experiences, and travels during this year. I hope it is somewhat cohesive, understandable, (I often am not) but most importantly, that it gives insight into my life and the project as I travel around the world.
